Super Mario 3D Land

Mario franchise has been very succesfull with their first edition of classic Mario. But for the first time, Mario franchise succeeds in delivering a unique platform experience with their new 3D edition. The view prespective of the gameplay is viewed from fixed camera angles that generally provide a look at the action from a vantage point of view. The game embraces the more traditional style of Mario platforms with a fixed camera view rather than allowing the player to fully explore his environment.

Super Mario 3D Land is a very important release for Mario. Mario's first 3D outing establishes the benchmark by which all other platformers on the system will be compared, introducing a solid camera system that limits player frustration while allowing a fully explorable environment full of 3D effects.

The Launch of "Sonic Generation"

I think most of you guys have played Sonic at one stage in your life or have heard about it from your friends.  The video game Sonic which first came out in 1991 and was developed in Japan by Sega Team is seminal 16-bit game which lacked some graphical developments at the beginning, yet; attracted many gamers from all over the world with its fascinating and addictive game play

The game celebrated its 20th anniversary of the original Sonic The Hedgeh yesterday (1st November, 2011) by launching the latest edition of Sonic series calling it "Sonic Generation." The recent upgrade has a similar game concept from the original Sonic, but it witnessed a 3D upgrade in its graphics which after watching the trailer, I thought it will be more interesting to play

Here is the trailer of Sonic recent release Sonic Generation

CSI: Miami Video Game

CSI: Miami have released two new spin-offs, one theme is located in Miami and the other in New York City, joining the already established version in Las Vegas. I did not personally knew there is a video game version of the movie, but apparently it has been there for a couple of years now. It's basically a crime-solving PC adventure genre. At the game itself, the player is represented as green recruit in the world of crime scene investigation, and your squad is the CSI: Miami team. The main characters of the movie are in the game play as well, such as David Caruso's and Horatio Caine.

The main objective of the game is to collect evidence and interview witnesses so you can figure out the problem. I tried to play it online, it's pretty simple. When I first read that there is a game adopting the CSI: Miami series I thought it would be a cutting edge video game, but unfortunately it's the total opposite. The game is so simple, the graphics are poor and there is no challenge to make you wanna play it again. I don't think it did well in the market.. Here is the trailer of the game.

Watch the video then read the review. The illusion of interfacing with 3D objects..

The new fascinated technology you've seen in the video above is called "HoloDesk" which is created by Microsoft Research. The device basically allow users to interact with virtual 3D objects such as the actions seen in the video above, juggling balls, moving blocks and using a virtual smart phone.
The device uses Kinect camera, which was also designed by Microsoft for the Xbox 360 video game console, to create the illusion of a 3D world.

The concept is further down studied by researchers, but when the model is completely ready to be released, I think Microsoft could establish advanced innovations adding them to their video games division. Something to look out for in the future..

There are more videos on Youtube about the "HoloDesk" concept..

Product Placement (Election Campaign)

Apart from critics claiming video games promote violence. Well, it nowadays promotes elections of being the next United States president. Burnout Paradise is a racing video game series which was released in January 2008. During that period current U.S. president Barack Obama was elected in the 2008 U.S. presidential elections, so one way of increasing votes he paid $44,000 (AED 161,500) for in-game virtual billboards encouraging players to vote to for him.

The video below gives you a deeper insight (San Diego News Channel).
